Every once in a while a moment occurs in which so-called progressives display their ignorance in such a brazen manner that one can’t help but wonder if they are trolling us. On Friday, the global Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization posted a tweet that reeked of a tragic lack of self-awareness that might make one wonder if the group’s leadership is stupid, or if they just think their audience is stupid.
In what the social media person likely thought was a deep and profound statement, Black Lives Matter tweeted:
Capitalism doesn’t love Black people.
At first glance, this tweet should not come as much of a surprise. After all, the global organization is run by trained Marxists. Of course, they aren’t fans of capitalism – at least not openly.

But there is something odd about this whole affair – something the organization probably didn’t think people would notice. It has to do with how the group gets its funding, especially after the murder of George Floyd.
See, in the wake of the furor over the George Floyd situation, many corporations decided to take advantage of the situation by going woke and pledging to support Black Lives Matter and the causes it champions. Forbes published a report on this very matter. The author wrote:
Gaming companies have joined donation efforts to anti-racism organizations: EA has pledged $1 million to groups including the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund; Square Enix has donated $250,000 and is matching employee donations to Black Lives Matter; Ubisoft has contributed $100,000 to the NAACP and BLM.
The article also noted that “[b]eauty company Glossier has committed $500,000 to Black Lives Matter and another $500,000 to support black-owned, CEO Emily Weiss announced on Sunday.”
Melinda French Gates posted a tweet announcing she would be using her philanthropy to support the same cause championed by Black Lives Matter. She wrote:
I don’t have all the answers about how I can use my voice and my philanthropy to be part of the solution. I will continue to deepen my understanding and to stand with people and organizations working toward a future centered on gender and racial equity.
The Washington Post also published a piece detailing how large corporations are donating billions of funds to Black Lives Matter and other “antiracist” causes. The author wrote:
Apple and AbbVie, Facebook and Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble, and other top corporations made broad claims about what they would do, pledging to be a force for societal change and to fight racism and injustice, including violence against Black Americans.
The article continues:
To date, America’s 50 biggest public companies and their foundations collectively committed at least $49.5 billion since Floyd’s murder last May to addressing racial inequality — an amount that appears unequaled in sheer scale.
To be fair, only a small fraction of the money that was pledged has been spent or allocated. But the fact remains that these corporations are still pumping tons of money into the BLM global organization.
So, it appears the Marxists at BLM aren’t THAT angry at capitalism, are they? Indeed, if they opposed capitalism as much as they claim, wouldn’t they reject this funding on principle? Shouldn’t they only take money from the government, since that is who they want as their savior?
This, along with a variety of other developments, just further illustrates the hypocrisy these far-left progressives exhibit on the regular. Remember how former BLM leader Patrisse Cullors resigned after it was revealed she possesses a rather extensive real estate portfolio?
The truth is that these Marxist types have no problem with capitalism, as long as it furthers their agenda. Indeed, when it comes to economics, the hard left takes a “good for me but not for thee” attitude toward the situation. Folks like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can raise money for her socialist causes by selling t-shirts without any sense of irony because they don’t apply their beliefs consistently.
The far left is not as opposed to capitalism as they want us to think. They will always support corporations and free markets if it helps them achieve their goal: dominance over the rest of us.
